Around 80% of the cost of running the parish is found by the congregation under “planned giving”. This is a system which allows parishioners to spread their giving by weekly/monthly/quarterly installments, using bank standing orders or our envelope scheme. Parishioners using the latter are given a supply of predated envelopes which are submitted through the collection plate. The donor’s name does not appear on the envelope so confidentiality is maintained.
As a charity, St Peter’s is able to benefit from the Gift Aid scheme whereby a donor’s contribution can be increased by 25% at no extra cost to themselves. For a donor’s contributions to be eligible, the donor must pay income or capital gains tax of not less than the amount we claim. We can reclaim tax from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) on the sum you give. You can work out the amount of tax we can reclaim by dividing the amount donated by four. This means that for every £1 donated, we can claim an extra 25 pence.
